The second edition of the DV’Classical International Festival opens with a programme shaped by national music tradition. World-renowned cellist Maximilian Hornung brings the instrument to the foreground in two contrasting works: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s elegant and dazzling Rococo Variations, followed by Vaja Azarashvili’s Cello Concerto, with its distinctive Georgian colour and emotional intensity.
Edward Elgar’s Serenade for Strings offers lyrical warmth and English refinement, before Bartók’s Divertimento for Strings brings Hungarian energy, folk inflection and rhythmic drive to the stage under Hungarian conductor Gergely Madaras. The evening ends in a burst of Georgian energy and folk tradition with Sulkhan Tsintsadze’s Miniature No. 6: Sachidao - a vivid and unmistakably Georgian final gesture, inspired by the world of traditional music and dance.
