Richard Strauss’ Salomé

Richard Strauss’ opera Salomé is a powerful one-act modernist opera, written in 1905. The libretto is based on the german trasnlation of Oscar Wilde 1891 play Salome written in french. It tells the story of Salomé, whose fasinaction with the imprisoned prophet Jochanaan leads to obsession and tragedy. Known for its intense drama, rich orchestration, and the famous “Dance of the Seven Veils,” the opera remains a landmark of twentieth-century music.
